Hamilton Immigrant Survey Results |
|
|
This summer, the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC) conducted its second bi-annual survey to better understand the experiences of immigrants in our city. For this survey, “immigrant” refers to anyone born outside Canada who was living, working, or studying in Hamilton at the time of data collection.
Who participated?
A total of 634 immigrants shared their perspectives. Participants included permanent and temporary residents, refugees, international students, temporary foreign workers, refugee claimants, Ukrainian newcomers, and foreign nationals who are now Canadian citizens. Anyone aged 16 or older was eligible to respond.
What did participants share?
Participants told us about their experiences, challenges, and contributions, and offered suggestions to make Hamilton even more welcoming. The findings provide a snapshot of how immigrants are doing in different aspects of life — from employment and housing to social connections and sense of belonging.
Why is this survey important?
This survey not only compares outcomes to those observed in the 2023 Immigrant Survey, but also explores differences across immigration category, time in Canada, racialized status, gender, age, and more. These insights help inform policies, programs, and community initiatives that support immigrant success in Hamilton.
