📊 Hamilton’s Labour Market – September 2025 Snapshot
Hamilton’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 7.2%, sitting just above the national average (7.0%). The city recorded 454,600 employed residents, with most working in the private sector (309,500).
Top employers this month included: McMaster University, Hamilton Health Sciences, and the City of Hamilton, while Retail Salespersons remained the most in-demand occupation.

Empowerment Squared is excited to host its annual Post-Secondary Information Fair on Thursday October 23 2025.
This fair-style event provides pathway options and networking opportunities for youth and adults interested in attending post-secondary and continuing education classes.
Meet representatives from institutions such as

- Skilled Trades Ontario
- McMaster University
- University of Toronto
- University of Waterloo and more
Featured International Internship Placement Opportunity
- Learn more about an International Internship opportunity in Ghana or Liberia for individuals ages 18 - 30
Who should attend this fair?
- Youth in middle school and high school who are interested in learning about their post-secondary options
- Parents and caregivers of youth in middle school and high school
- Adults interested in continuing their education
All ages are welcome; however, those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian.
You are welcome to attend the event anytime from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the last entry at 6:30 PM.

The underemployment of recent post-secondary graduates remains a persistent and serious issue in both Canada and the United States.
Underemployment refers to the situation in which individuals with a bachelor’s degree are employed in positions that do not require that level of training, skill or credential. It also includes part-time workers who would prefer full-time employment

Managing expectations and providing a realistic image of life in Canada is essential. Many newcomers arrive with high hopes about work, education and lifestyle expectations shaped by media portrayals and political narratives.
Does this mean that Canada is not a good place to live? Absolutely not. Canada offers many opportunities. However, the expectations newcomers carry are often far greater than the reality, creating a disconnect that needs to be addressed.
