Workforce Planning Hamilton is excited to share the findings of the Hamilton Business Survey in partnership with the City of Hamilton’s Economic Development office! 

With 735 local businesses participating, the survey highlights critical insights into labour market shortages, employer training needs, and sector-specific priorities. The results offer a comprehensive look at Hamilton's workforce needs and opportunities. 📊

In Canada, 41% of Black Canadians reported experiencing discrimination based on their race or skin colour, almost 15 times higher than the non-Indigenous, non-racialized population (3%)

- In Canada, people of South Asian (38%) and Chinese (36%) origin and people from racialized groups (32%) have personally experienced discrimination due to race or ethnicity from time to time if not regularly.

Free Tax Clinic

Hamilton Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) will be providing a FREE Tax Clinic for individuals on a low to modest income: 

 

[Persons and families living on less than $35,000 annually (single) or less than $45,000 annually (couple/family)].


The event is scheduled on April 15. 2025 at the Dominic Agostino Riverdale Community Centre and will be by appointments.

Provides academic upgrading for students in reading, writing, mathematics and computers.

 

For students who want to:

- Complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma

- Obtain employment

- Enter apprenticeship

- Move towards Post Secondary College or University

- Achieve personal growth and/or independence

 

Schedule:

- Ongoing registration - Flexible schedule

- September 2, 2024 - June 27, 2025

- Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Friday - 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

OmniaBio Hamilton Expansion

🎉 Big news out of Hamilton! 🎉

The Government of Canada announced that it will work with OmniaBio to expand its facility at McMaster Innovation Park. This expansion aims to manufacture cell and gene therapies and provide production services to companies globally, strengthening Canada’s participation in global value chains. Cell and gene therapies have the potential to revolutionize the treatment of a broad range of life-threatening diseases. 🔬

Ground has been broken and construction is underway at the location of the future IKEA Hamilton Customer Distribution Centre (CDC) and Collection point.

The project is part of a more than $400 million investment by IKEA Canada and is located at 212 Glover Rd.

Its final size is slated to be 483,285 square feet and, once certified, the CDC will be among the top five largest zero carbon industrial buildings in Ontario, explains a release.

The facility is slated to create “thousands of direct and indirect jobs, including warehouse, delivery, kitchen installation, design services, B2B, and third-party (Task Rabbit) assembly roles,” the release reads.
