The webinar focuses on the latest release of our Halfway Through 2024 report, delving into the labour force, job demand, and industry changes in Hamilton’s economy.

Looking at industry changes from June to July 2024, the Hamilton CMA saw a consecutive increase in employment for the Information, Culture and Recreation, with a percent increase of 10%. Following was Agriculture (6%), and Construction (4%).
 
The top declining industries for July included Transportation and Warehousing, which saw employment contract by 9% – added on to the 9.25% decline seen last month.

Mastering Mathematics

The Mastering Mathematics Program is now open for Fall registration.

The Mastering Mathematics Program is a free tutoring program designed to assist newcomer children in grades 2-10 who are dealing with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or other mental health issues impacting their learning. To attend the program, you are not required to have an official diagnosis from a clinician - we accept all children with learning difficulties including suspected or diagnosed both. 

This program will specifically focus on teaching mathematics, covering essential areas such as number sense and numeration, patterning and algebra, and mathematical applications. The sessions are scheduled to run from September 30 to November 21, 2024.

Here are the program details:

  • Location: Kiwanis House (6 Acorn St, Hamilton)
  • Dates: Tuesdays & Wednesdays
  • Time: 5:30-6:30 PM OR 6:45-7:45 PM

Power of the Pen Judges

Be a part of the 30th Anniversary of the Power of the Pen writing competition as a Volunteer French Judge. We are looking for Francophone writers and educators Canada-wide to evaluate French Poetry and Short Story categories for ages 12-18.

As of June 2024, nearly 474,000 Canadians are receiving regular employment insurance (EI), marking a 10% increase from the previous year. The number of EI recipients has risen for the second consecutive month, with a 6,000-person increase. 

Notably, men aged 25 to 54 saw a significant rise in EI claims, with an additional 3,800 men (a 2.1% increase). Women aged 55 and older also experienced a substantial increase, with 1,300 more beneficiaries (a 2.7% rise). ⁠
